Getting ready for an exam can be challenging, but the Exam Day Team is here to help! Below, we’ve provided answers to some of the most common questions about what to expect before, during, and after Exam Day. Take a moment to review this information to feel more prepared.
Before Exam Day
Q: Can I test my device to ensure it will run smoothly on exam day?
A: Yes, you have access to a practice exam on the FMI Exam Platform. This practice exam is structured to mirror the actual exam and is the most effective way to ensure that both you and your device are fully prepared.
Q: Where can I access past FMI Q&A webinar sessions?
A: All Q&A sessions are recorded and shared within the FMI Community. To view past sessions, please visit this link.
Q: Can I use an external monitor?
A: Yes, external monitors are permitted. However, your displays must be set to duplicated and not extend. If you require any support adjusting your settings before Exam Day, please reach out to us at info@fminsitute.com.
Q: Can I use a work laptop for the exam?
A: Yes, candidates may use a work laptop to take the AFM exam. However, we strongly recommend completing the practice exam beforehand to confirm that the necessary software functions properly on your system. Note that the Exam Day Team is limited in its ability to assist with issues related to firewalls and network security settings.
Q: How can I change my exam start time?
A: If you would like to change your exam time, please use this form. Please note that FMI uses UTC time for all its scheduling. To convert UTC to your local time, you can use this link. Exam times can only be modified up to 48 hours before your originally scheduled start time.
Q: How can I defer my exam?
A: If you would like to defer your exam, you may do so by accessing our scheduling form here. Please remember that you can only defer your exam up to 48 hours before your scheduled exam date. Failure to meet that deadline may result in additional fees.
On Exam Day
Q: When can I begin my exam?
A: Your exam will only be available at your scheduled start time. On Exam Day, you can log into the FMI Exam Platform up to 5 minutes early. Once your exam time begins, refresh your page to gain access.
Q: What should I do if my Excel workbook says it is "protected"?
A: To unprotect your Excel workbook, go to File > Info > Unprotect workbook.
Q: Can I take a bathroom break during my exam?
A: Yes, bathroom breaks are permitted as needed. However, you must not disconnect or turn off your computer or webcam while away. Please note that additional time will not be provided for breaks.
Q: What kind of Macros can I use during the AFM exam?
A: During the exam, you may create any Macros that you wish. Prior to the exam, you may use certain types of pre-built Macros. Pre-built Macros that control formatting (eg font colour, number format, etc.) and formula auditing are permitted. Your pre-built Macros cannot add text, formulas, or calculations to the model. A friendly reminder that the remote proctoring software will be monitoring your webcam and screen throughout the exam!
Q: What should I do if I get disconnected from the FMI Exam Platform?
A: Disconnections can occur due to network issues. If this happens, simply refresh your page to reconnect. In most cases, this will resolve the issue. In the unlikely event that you remain disconnected for 5 minutes or longer, you must reach out to the Exam Day Team.
Q: How can I reach the Exam Day Team if I need support on Exam Day?
A: The Exam Day Team is on standby and ready to offer support. If you have any questions or encounter any issues, we can be reached via live chat on the FMI Exam Platform or via email at info@fminstitute.com.
Q: Why does the Exam Day Team recommend frequently saving your exam workbook?
A: Regularly saving your work is essential. In the event of a technical issue, unsaved work may not be recoverable, and the Exam Day Team may have limited ability to assist. Throughout the exam you should be saving your exam workbook locally (e.g. to desktop). Do not save your workbook onto a cloud application (e.g. OneDrive, Google Drive or iCloud).
Q: Can I download the exam case?
A: No, candidates are not permitted to download the exam case. The exam case is property of FMI and should not be downloaded or saved. Doing so is in breach of our Exam Policies. Candidates will have access to an Excel workbook that can be downloaded. However, the exam case should not be saved or downloaded.
Q: What happens if I finish early?
A: If you complete your exam before the 4-hour time limit, you may submit it at any time.
Q: What happens if I run out of time?
A: You must complete and submit your exam before the timer expires. If the timer runs out before you submit, your exam will lock, and you will need to contact the Exam Day Team for further instructions. Please note that late submissions may be considered an invalid result.
After Exam Day
Q: What happens after I submit my exam?
A: Once you submit your exam file, you should receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this email or encounter any issues, please contact the Exam Day Team for assistance. They will be happy to confirm your submission.
Q: When can I expect my results to be released?
A: Candidates can expect to receive their results up to 8 weeks after their exam date. FMI will share your results via email.
